Bangkok has really grown on me. Coming back from Nepal, an even more frenetic, noisy, dirty place, made me realize how good I have it here. Some more evidence:
1) My lunch today cost me $1 Canadian Dollar. I had so much I am still full (at 4:30pm) and I have some for dinner.
2) I booked a flight to Chiang Mai for a weekend. It cost me $60 Canadian Dollars to fly there, return, for the weekend. It would cost me that much to drive to Windsor and Back at home.
3) I just took a motorcycle taxi home. It took me 30 minutes to get from school home. No helmet, sun on your face, weaving in and out of traffic. So enjoyable.
Come visit!

Greetings from San Diego, California, USA.
Friendly visitor to your site planning to take a visit to Bangkok this summer. Wondering if I could ask you some travel related questions:
1) How "easy" is it to travel around the Southeast Asia region (Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Nepal, Burma, etc.)? Are there accessible planes, buses and/or trains that travel these spots regularly?
2) It sounds like you are originally from New Zealand? Did you have to take various vaccinations/shots in order to travel to Thailand? What would you caution for those who will be acclimating to the region there in terms of health. I know there's a lot posted about this, I figured I'd ask you as well! Thanks for your consideration to answer if you have a moment.
3) Are visas necessary to travel from country to country around the region there?
4) How much Thai must I cram to learn to get around? :-)
THANKS FOR SHARING ABOUT YOUR ADVENTURES! Good luck with the rest of your teaching year.
Looking forward to my visit to that part of the world!
Sincerely,
Jnaseh
